Artist of the Week: Shakira
Music

The Latin singer, who recently dropped her collaboration with Rihanna 'Can't Remember to Forget You', is currently working on her new self-titled album that's arriving in May.

AceShowbiz - Shakira admitted that she was nervous about asking Rihanna to work with her in "Can't Remember to Forget You", which later became a hit. "[I] thought it was a little bit of a challenge to get her to record this track because she's so busy," she said last month. "I honestly thought it'd never happen, but I said, 'I'm going to send it to her and see what happens.' "

Shakira made the right choice. "She heard the record and she loved it and she said she was on board and I was the happiest girl alive!" she continued. The up-tempo reggae-tinged song receives heavy airplay on radio and has soared on many charts including Billboard 100 where it has so far peaked at No. 15.

Several days after the track made its debut, an accompanying music video arrived. Featuring the two superstars smoking, writhing around on bed and dancing in revealing dresses, the super sexy clip garnered more than 100 million views in less than two weeks since it was uploaded on Vevo.

The clip has drawn some controversies as well. Colombian politician Marco Fidel Ramirez has deemed the video inappropriate as it promotes lesbianism and the use of tobacco. Responding to people's different reactions about the video, she said in a recent interview on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, "I knew it was going to be a little controversial. People would be interested especially because Rihanna is so big, but these numbers are unbelievable."

She also revealed that she sought boyfriend Gerard Pique's approval before filming the steamy clip. "I told him," she said. "I asked him if he agreed with everything and he agreed ... I wanted to make sure because he's super jealous. He's territorial. He wants to know everything is under control."

"Can't Remember to Forget You" is the first track released from her upcoming album, "Shakira", which is scheduled to arrive on March 25. Later in the interview, she talked about why the next record was self-titled.

"Because this album is not really a conceptual album. I don't think there's a common thread from top to bottom and there were many stops and goes throughout the creative process and many things happened, among those delivering a child ... so I didn't think this album deserved to have a word as a title that encompassed the whole concept of this body of work ... I thought that my name was sufficient," the mother of one explained.

Shakira is going to be really busy this year. While working on her album, she'll serve as a coach in the newest season of "The Voice" that's premiering on February 24 on NBC. "I think the chemistry is better than ever," she said of rejoining Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Usher. "I'm having fun ... [although] Adam [gets on my nerves the most] because he's so competitive! And Usher is like Switzerland, he's a little more neutral. And Blake can get on my nerves too, but he's too funny."
