AceShowbiz - Hollywood is mourning the death of one of its great talent. Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead of an apparent drug overdose on Sunday, February 2 in his New York City apartment, police said. He was 46.

His family has released a statement confirming the sad news. "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone. This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers," the statement read.

Details surrounding Hoffman's death have also emerged. A law enforcement source told E! News that Hoffman's girlfriend called one of his friends when he failed to pick up his children. The Oscar-winning actor, who had struggled with addiction problems in the past, was discovered by a business associate shortly after 11:30 A.M. Eastern time in his Greenwich Village apartment.

The source also said that the Plutarch Heavensbee of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" was found on the bathroom floor, dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, with a needle sticking out of his left arm. There were allegedly two glassine plastic envelopes containing heroin, which read "Ace of Spades" and "Ace of Hearts," near his body, and eight more empty envelopes were found in various places in the apartment.
