The sky grows dark in the teaser for vampire-themed series 'The Strain', while one of the 'Extant' videos offers definitions of the show's title.

AceShowbiz - FX has given a sneak peek at its upcoming series "The Strain" with a new teaser. Debuted during NFC Championship game on Sunday, January 19, the video sees a New York skyline being cast in darkness before it features a tagline, "He is here."

CBS recently also debuted two teasers for its new series "Extant". One of them is boasting about the involvement of Academy Award winner Halle Berry as the lead actress and Steven Spielberg as an executive producer. The second video, meanwhile, offers definitions of the word "extant" itself.

"The Strain" from executive producer Guillermo del Toro is a high-concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Centers for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called on to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity.

Showrunner Carlton Cuse recently said the vampires on the show "are not sexy, although there is sex in the show." He explained, "You'll never look at vampires the same way after this. These are not brooding dudes with romantic problems. These are scary dudes. This is really a re-imagining of vampire lore... They're not romantic creatures."

Dishing on the plot details, he revealed, "The show opens with the arrival of an airplane that lands at John F. Kennedy Airport. It rolls to a stop and everyone on the airplane appears to be dead. The mysterious cargo is the way this strain of vampire activity will spread to New York City, and ultimately to the rest of the world." The horror series is expected to premiere in July on FX.

As for "Extant", it centers on a female astronaut (Berry) who is trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space. Her experiences lead to events that ultimately change the course of human history. The drama eyes a summer premiere on CBS.
