Nick Nolte Tapped to Voice Watcher Samyaza in Darren Aronofsky's 'Noah'
Movie

The 'Gangster Squad' star joins Mark Margolis and Frank Langella who is also expected to play one of the angels.

AceShowbiz - A new cast member for "Noah" is announced by Darren Aronofsky, less than three months before the film hits U.S. theaters. "Gangster Squad" actor Nick Nolte is confirmed to lend his voice to fallen angel Samyaza in the upcoming biblical movie led by Russell Crowe.

"Just added the legend nick nolte as the watcher samyaza in #noah," the director wrote on his Twitter along with a picture of the actor standing in front of a big screen displaying a scene from the film. "Long live the nephilim! it was an honor," he added.

Mark Margolis was initially linked for the role, and question if the "Breaking Bad" star was nixed from the pic soon arose. "Mark Margolis fans, fear not, Mark plays watcher Magog as always, #noah . long live the nephilim. Nolte joins Mark and Frank Langella," Aronofsky assured.

The "nephilim" that the director mentioned is taken from Genesis 6:4 to describe "sons of God" and "daughters of men" in the Bible. As stated in the Book of Enoch, Samyaza is one of the angels called The Watchers. His judgment against mankind was believed to be the reason for the massive flood faced by Noah and his people.

"Noah" is set for a March 28, 2014 release in the U.S., with Crowe portraying a man chosen by God for a great task before an apocalyptic flood destroys the world. Other cast members include Anthony Hopkins, Ray Winstone, Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Douglas Booth.
