'Gravity' Takes 11 Nominations From 2014 BAFTAs

The Sandra Bullock starrer gets the attention from the British Academy Film, being nominated in the main categories such as Best Film, Best Actress and Best Director.

AceShowbiz - During the announcement of 2014 British Academy Film Awards nominees on Wednesday, January 8, "Gravity" came up several times. The Sandra Bullock starring film leads the list with 11 nominations, followed by "12 Years a Slave" and "American Hustle" with 10 each and "Captain Phillips" with 9.

The four aforementioned films are competing against each other in the coveted Best Film category along with "Philomena". The four movies are also vying for Best Director category, joined by "The Wolf of Wall Street". Inevitably, the films' leading stars; Bullock, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Tom Hanks, Judi Dench and Leonardo DiCaprio are listed under acting categories.

Matt Damon scored a nomination as boyfriend of flamboyant singer Liberace in "Behind the Candelabra" after shunned from last year's Oscars. It was released on TV channel HBO Stateside but hit cinemas in U.K. Damon's co-star Michael Douglas won an Emmy for outstanding lead actor as Liberace.

Distributors-wise, Warner Bros. leads with 20 nominations, followed by eOne with 15 and Entertainment with 13. The awards ceremony will be held on February 16 at London's Royal Opera House and hosted by Stephen Fry.
