Sylacauga State Senator Jerry Fielding plans to introduce legislation that will offer the 'Duck Dynasty' star the state's official and unanimous support.

AceShowbiz - Alabama Senator Jerry Fielding is among the few who shows his support to "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson in action. The politician plans to introduce a resolution supporting the reality TV star amid the backlash he's received following his anti-gay comments.
"Phil Robertson's family values are shared by the vast majority of Alabamians, who are rightfully concerned by the vitriol aimed at his Christian stance," Fielding says. "There's a clear double standard in the media favoring a liberal worldview. When it's used to silence and punish Christians for stating their beliefs, that's when we must defend the rights of individuals to exercise their free speech without fear of politically-motivated repercussion."
The proposed resolution, which will offer Robertson the state's official and unanimous support, will be introduced when the legislature convenes on January 14. Part of the resolution reads, "A portion of the politically correct populous, which strongly encourages tolerance and open-mindedness, is now contradicting themselves with extreme intolerance and close-mindedness towards Phil and his personal beliefs, which stem from his rock-solid Christian faith."
Fielding also thinks that "Phil should not be penalized in any way for practicing freedom of speech, but should be celebrated as a hero for courageously revealing his self-truth and Christian ideals in a world that can be unkind towards those with a conservative mind-set."
The Sylacauga State Senator claims the resolution is not meant to send an anti-gay message to the nation. "We just don't want people running over people who believe in the Bible and standing up for Jesus and God and doing things the Scriptures lead us to do," he explains.
Meanwhile, openly gay lawmaker in the Alabama legislature Patricia Todd thinks "it's not one of the most important thing facing Alabama, that we need to discuss in Alabama," but agrees that Robertson has a right to express his religious beliefs. She, however, points out that the company he's working for, A&E, is concerned about national perception.
Robertson has been placed under hiatus from filming "Duck Dynasty" indefinitely following his controversial statement on GQ in which he said, "Everything is blurred on what's right and what's wrong... Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men."
Former Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin, her daughter Bristol Palin and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal have defended the Robertson patriarch, noting that everyone is entitled to express their views. Fans, meanwhile, have launched an online petition demanding the network to reinstate Robertson immediately.
