The 'Premium Rush' actor tweets he's 'incredibly honored to be working' with David Goyer, Warner Bros. and Neil Gaiman after he's reported in talks to star in and direct 'Sandman'.

AceShowbiz - Joseph Gordon-Levitt has officially signed up for a Sandman movie. The actor himself has confirmed his involvement in the project, tweeting on Monday, December 16, "Ladies and gentlemen, I'm incredibly honored to be working with David Goyer, Warner Bros, and @neilhimself on SANDMAN. #Prelude."

Gordon-Levitt didn't detail his role in the movie, but earlier reports said that he was in talks to star in, direct and produce the adaptation of the Neil Gaiman comic book classic. Goyer has written the treatment and will supervise the writing, but no scribe is hired yet.

When a follower asked on Twitter if the "Sandman" he's working on would be about the "big giant sand guy from the Spider-Man franchise," the John Blake of "The Dark Knight Rises" simply replied, "Um, no."

Gaiman's "Sandman", in fact, centers on the Lord of Dreams, also known as Morpheus, Oneiros, the Shaper, who is the personification of dreams. After captured by an occult ritual and held prisoner for 70 years, he escapes in the modern day, takes revenge on his captors, and sets about rebuilding his kingdom, which has fallen into disrepair in his absence.

A Sandman movie had been in development since the mid-'90s with Roger Avary attached to direct, but the focus later shifted to a television series adaptation pitched by James Mangold. The small-screen project never came to fruition either.
