SAG Awards 2014 Nominees in Movie: '12 Years a Slave' Leads With Four Nods

AceShowbiz - The nominees for the upcoming Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards have been revealed. In movie category, "12 Years a Slave" dominates with four nods, while "August: Osage County", "Dallas Buyers Club", and "Lee Daniels' The Butler" follow with three apiece.

"12 Years a Slave" star Chiwetel Ejiofor is vying for best male actor against Bruce Dern ("Nebraska"), Tom Hanks ("Captain Phillips"), Matthew McConaughey ("Dallas Buyers Club"), and Forest Whitaker ("Lee Daniels' The Butler").

Ejiofor's co-star Michael Fassbender is nominated for best male supporting actor along with the likes of Barkhad Abdi ("Captain Phillips"), Daniel Bruhl ("Rush"), the late James Gandolfini ("Enough Said" ), and Jared Leto ("Dallas Buyers Club").

Ejiofor and Fassbender's fellow castmember Lupita Nyong'o is up for best female supporting actor alongside Jennifer Lawrence ("American Hustle"), Julia Roberts ("August: Osage County"), June Squibb ("Nebraska"), and Oprah Winfrey ("Lee Daniels' The Butler").

The Steve McQueen-directed true-story slavery drama is additionally among the contenders of best cast ensemble. It is facing off David O. Russell's crime drama "American Hustle", John Well's dark dramedy "August: Osage County", Jean-Marc Vallee 's biographical drama "Dallas Buyers Club", and historical film "Lee Daniels' The Butler".

Nominees for best stunt ensemble, meanwhile, consists of survival film "All Is Lost", car-racing action "Fast and Furious 6", war drama "Lone Survivor", biographical sports drama "Rush", and Marvel's superhero movie "The Wolverine".

Many nominees quickly react to the nod(s) they received. "So solid and gratifying to have this recognition from my fellow actors. Cheers to what we get to do: depict humanity and ride this wild bull called acting. With thanks and respect, I'm honored with this nomination," McConaughey states. Fellow best actor nominee Hanks says, "I'm delighted and congratulations to my fellow nominees."

McConaughey's co-star Leto gushes, "I had not made a film in almost six years. To return to the screen with this love and support is absolutely insane and amazing. I'm so honored to be recognized by my peers at the Screen Actors Guild and to be nominated by this wonderful group of people that I admire so much. I'm so proud and so grateful to you all. Congratulations to Matthew and the entire cast. I'm so thankful to have worked with such an incredibly talented and dedicated group of actors."

Best female actress contender, Meryl Streep, states, "I am so grateful for this honor, grateful for everything this profession has given me, and thankful for the generosity of the actors with whom I worked this year on 'August: Osage County.' It was a privilege to be a part of this splendid group."

Fellow nominee in the category, "Philomena" star Judi Dench, says, "I'm very proud to be nominated and with such remarkable fellow actors." "Saving Mr. Banks" star Emma Thompson gushes, "It's a special thrill to be nominated by other actors and this movie was a pure joy to make." They are competing against Cate Blanchett ("Blue Jasmine") and Sandra Bullock ("Gravity").

Streep's co-star Roberts adds, "This is such an exciting morning for me and my remarkable cast mates. For all of us to be recognized by our peers in the Screen Actors Guild is a lovely honor."

The winners, both in movie and TV, will be honored in a gala January 18, 2014, at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles. Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to award-winning actress, 82-year-old Rita Moreno.
