J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will help with the script since Orci's partner Alex Kurtzman leaves his post in the screenwriting team.

AceShowbiz - "Star Trek 3" assembles trio of writers, THR learns. Roberto Orci, who has been a screenwriting and producing team for the first two films along with Alex Kurtzman, will get new helping hands from J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, since Kurtzman will sit out the scripting duty for the third installment.

J.J. Abrams, who directed 2009's "Star Trek" and 2013's "Star Trek Into Darkness", won't reprise his role as a helmer either in the next project due to his commitment with "Star Wars Episode 7". However, the filmmaker will still be involved in the production.

No director has been announced for the upcoming sequel, but "Attack the Block" director Joe Cornish is rumored to be the frontrunner. No release date has been booked either, but report suggests Paramount aims to get it ready in 2016 to celebrate the franchise's 50th anniversary.

Original cast Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana are expected to return, but no official announcement has been made.
