'Her' Wins Big at 2013 National Board of Review Awards

The sci-fi romance led by Joaquin Phoenix and voiced by Scarlett Johansson bags top prizes for Best Film and Best Director.

AceShowbiz - "Her" is a big winner at this year's National Board of Review Awards. The movie about a lone writer, played by Joaquin Phoenix, who falls in love with a computer operating system, voiced by Scarlett Johansson, takes the title of Best Film of the year. The sci-fi romance also helps Spike Jonze win Best Director.

"Spike Jonze is one of the most talented and visionary filmmakers working today," says Annie Schulhof, the president of the National Board of Review. "In 'Her' he explores the age-old themes of love and human connection in a completely fresh and innovative way. It is an outstanding achievement that is sure to become a new classic."

Best Actor goes to Bruce Dern for his role in "Nebraska", and Best Supporting Actor is awarded to his co-star Will Forte. Meanwhile, Best Actress is given to Emma Thompson for her performance in "Saving Mr. Banks", and Best Supporting Actress is presented to "Fruitvale Station" actress Octavia Spencer.

The winner of Breakthrough Performance in male category is Spencer's co-star Michael B. Jordan and the recipient in the female category is Adele Exarchopoulos for her role in "Blue Is the Warmest Color". Other winners include "Prisoners" for Best Ensemble and "Gravity" for Creative Innovation.
