Elton John to Perform on 'X Factor' Despite Slamming Show in Past

John has been expressing his concerns about such shows like 'X Factor' that create 'products' instead of creatives.

AceShowbiz - The season finale of "The X Factor" will feature such performances from Elton John, One Direction and Katy Perry. John in particular will do a duet with the show's judge Gary Barlow on the latter's new single "Face to Face" from album "Since I Saw You Last".

This inclusion of John in the performers list came as a shock because the "Rocket Man" has slammed reality competitions on TV, including "The X Factor", in the past. "Television and video have done a lot of damage to music. They've propelled people into stardom that aren't ready for it, you know, and can't sustain it," he was quoted as saying in July this year.

John also told Graham Norton in October, "The type of celebrity that television shows give you these days, without the experience of playing live, means you are just thrown to the wolves ...I don't dislike the people on these shows but feel sorry for them, they win the show, make their record and the next year it's someone else."

Nevertheless, John will join Barlow onstage at London's Wembley Arena on Sunday, December 15. One Direction will perform "Midnight Memories" on the show that propelled their career while Perry is set to sing "Unconditionally".

A day prior at the same arena, The Killers will play a medley of their hits including "Human". BRITs Critics Choice Award winner Tom Odell has also been scheduled to take the stage on the first day of the finale.
