Movie

The former 'Bunheads' star is set to take the title role in the Roundabout Theatre Company's musical production.

AceShowbiz - Sutton Foster is ready to get back to her root. The two-time Tony-winning star has nabbed a lead role in The Roundabout Theatre Company's production of "Violet", which is scheduled to start next spring.

Foster will play the title character after first portraying it in the special one-night concert presented in July by City Centers Encores!, which the Broadway musical is based on. The Hollywood Reporter describes her as "a facially disfigured North Carolina girl in the mid-1960s, who dreams of having flawless Hollywood-style looks and believes an Oklahoma televangelist is her ticket to wish fulfillment."

Leigh Silverman will once again serve as the director, with Jeanine Tesori providing the music. Jeffrey Page will choreograph the musical outing, Clint Ramos is in charge of the costume, David Zinn handles the sets, Mark Barton heads the lighting crew and Leon Rothenberg is in charge of the sound.

Previews will begin March 28 at Roundabout's American Airlines Theatre and the official opening is set for April 20. It is scheduled for a limited engagement through August 10. Other stars have not been announced for the show.

Foster last appeared on Broadway stage in "Anything Goes" as Reno Sweeney, the role which earned her one of her Tony Awards. She recently starred on ABC Family's "Bunheads", which was canceled by the network after only one season.
