Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, One Direction and More Perform at 2013 AMAs

Perry opens the awards show with a Japan-inspired performance while Timberlake sings 'a song about alcohol' and One Direction plays their 'Story of My Life'.

AceShowbiz - The 2013 American Music Awards kicked off with Katy Perry gracing the stage to perform her newest single, "Unconditionally". The 29-year-old singer looked pretty in a pink Japanese kimono while singing the beautiful song in a stage that was transformed into an iconic Japanese garden.

Other big names in music industry also gave their best performances at the annual event which was held at Los Angeles' Nokia Theater on Sunday night, November 24. Justin Timberlake brought along his touring band the Tennessee Kids to help him sing what he told audience "a song about alcohol," "Drink You Away".

Making their first appearance at the AMAs, British/Irish boyband One Direction walked onto the stage after Emma Roberts introduced them and called them her "favorite band." The five boys excited fans when they played "Story of My Life" which was taken from their forthcoming "Midnight Memories" album.

Also performing at the star-studded occasion was Ariana Grande. Wearing a floor-length red dress, she kicked off her set with the intro of her "The Way" before belting out another "Yours Truly" single called "Tattooed Heart". Grande received standing ovation from audience members that included Ciara and Lady GaGa.

Pop star Christina Aguilera and New York duo A Great Big World then joined forces to treat fans with their collaboration, "Say Something", while Pitbull teamed with Ke$ha to deliver a stunning performance of their "Timber". That night, Jennifer Lopez paid major homage to Cuban legend Celia Cruz with a spectacular and colorful performance filled with about two or three wardrobe changes.

As for the last performance, Miley Cyrus was joined by a giant kitten to sing her "Wrecking Ball". The cute cat appeared on the large screen behind the singer and lip-synced to the song. In order to comply with her cat theme, Cyrus who just celebrated her 21th birthday bared her belly and legs in a two-piece with cats printed on it.
