'Aningaaq' has been submitted for Oscar consideration in live-action short category and could make a history if it gets a nod alongside the feature film.

AceShowbiz - The man who received a distress call from Sandra Bullock's Dr. Ryan Stone in "Gravity" is revealed in a seven-minute companion short titled "Aningaaq". While the movie features the conversation from her side in outer space, this video shows the chat from the other person's side on earth.
During a pivotal scene in the movie, Stone initially hoped to contact NASA but reaches someone on a radio transmission who is completely unable to assist her. All she hears is a barking dog, a crying baby, and a man speaking in a foreign language.
Despite a language barrier, the two engage in a moving conversation and manage to confide in each other. She tells him about her tragic predicament in the outer space, while he tells her about his sick dog.
The short is directed by Jonas Cuaron, "Gravity" director Alfonso Cuaron's son who also contributed to writing the screenplay with his father. "It's this moment where the audience and the character get this hope that Ryan is finally going to be OK," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "Then you realize that everything gets lost in translation."
The video was originally filmed as a bonus feature for "Gravity" Blu-ray edition, but Warner Bros. has now submitted it for Oscar consideration in the live-action short category. Should it get nominated alongside the original film, they will make an Academy Award history as the first feature film and spin-off short from the same material to get nods together in the same year.
Supported also by George Clooney, the 3D film has crossed $500M mark and still counting. It has just been released in China and raked in an estimated $9 million in its first two days in the country.
