The director says watching the last episodes of the Bryan Cranston-starring drama series gave him a boost of confidence to be 'bold' with 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' ending.

AceShowbiz - Francis Lawrence discusses "Breaking Bad" influence in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire". The director says he took inspiration from the cliffhanger in the AMC drama series that left fans reeling to make a "bold" move on how to end the second installment of "The Hunger Games".
"I like a cliffhanger," he told The Huffington Post. "I was saying, what's really interesting is I became really obsessed with 'Breaking Bad' while we were making this and binge-watched the entire series up until these last eight episodes while we were making 'Catching Fire.' And the more I watched those episodes, I just became sort of convinced that you can do that kind of stuff with movies, too."
"I know it's weird because TV people used to always look at movies for inspiration, and now, suddenly, we're looking at some great TV shows as inspiration. But they opened bold and they end bold, and I just think that that's fun stuff," the filmmaker went on.
"Catching Fire" will not hit theaters in the United States until November 22, but it was already released in Brazil on November 15. The sequel collected $2.4 million in the country alone in its debut day, three times the first movie's opening. This weekend, it is expected to bow strong enough to dethrone two-week No. 1 "Thor: The Dark World" Stateside.
The second "Thor" is led by Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston. Meanwhile, "Catching Fire" stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Chris' actor brother Liam Hemsworth.
