Winona Ryder Hints She Will Return for 'Beetlejuice 2'
Movie

The 'Black Swan' star might reprise her role as Lydia in the follow-up project for which Tim Burton and Michael Keaton are attached to return as well.

AceShowbiz - Winona Ryder is likely to be part of "Beetlejuice 2". The actress, who was 17 years old when playing a teenage goth in the original ghost story classic, opened up to The Daily Beast, "I'm kind of sworn to secrecy. But it sounds like it might be happening."

The now 42-year-old star added, "It's not a remake," before elaborating, "It's 27 years later. And I have to say, I love Lydia [her on-screen character] so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later."

Ryder said it was a movie that she held dear to her heart because it helped propel her name to stardom. "That's one of those movies where little kids stop me," she recalled. "I'm so associated with it. I think it gave me my career. I was such a weird looking kid."

Tim Burton is in talks to return as a director for the sequel, and Michael Keaton is attached to reprise his iconic role as the striped-suit-wearing ghost. "I would never go near [a sequel] if it was not Tim and Michael," Ryder said. "Because those guys, I love."

The first "Beetlejuice" film was released in 1988 to a big success both commercially and critically. It grossed an estimated $73.7 million and won an Oscar for Best Makeup. It spawned an animated TV series produced by Burton. The series ran from 1989 to 1991.
