AceShowbiz - "The Simpsons" has paid a sweet, touching tribute to the late Marcia Wallace. During its ritual "chalkboard" gag at the opening of the November 3 episode, Bart Simpson, who usually writes repeated lines on the board, wrote one line, "We'll really miss you, Mrs. K," referring to Wallace's character of school teacher Edna Krabappel.
Though it wasn't a long tribute, the broadcast drew positive responses from fans. A Twitter user named Iceman wrote, "The Marcia Wallace tribute on the simpsons...it's honestly heartbreaking :( R.I.P Mrs K..." Another viewer, Branan Cooper, tweeted, "I'm impressed by the simple and touching and quite apropos tribute."
Wallace voiced the recurring role of Krabappel on the long-running animated series from 1990 until her death on October 25. She died from pneumonia, deemed to be a complication of breast cancer which she was first diagnosed with back in 1985. She was 70 years old.
Following her passing, showrunner Al Jean stated, "I was tremendously saddened to learn this morning of the passing of the brilliant and gracious Marcia Wallace." He said that he would retire her "irreplaceable" character Krabappel.
