If the deal is sealed, the 'Oldboy' director will direct the 'Suit and Tie' hitmaker to bring record producer Neil Bogart to life on the big screen.

AceShowbiz - Oscar-nominated director Spike Lee is in early negotiations to helm Foresight Unlimited's "Spinning Gold". It's a biopic of iconic music producer Neil Bogart where Justin Timberlake will take on the key role. The late record executive's son, Timothy Scott Bogart, writes the script and co-produces the project with Timberlake.

The film is set to tell the rags-to-riches story of a poor kid from Brooklyn who went on to become the man who defined the pop music culture of his time. Bogart, who died at age 39, is credited with discovering, launching and nurturing the careers of a generation of music superstars during the '60s and '70s including Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers, Gladys Knight, KISS, Parliament, Donna Summer and The Village People among many others.

Production is planned to begin next year. The movie's soundtrack will feature re-imagined version of music that Bogart promoted in his time. Foresight is expected to update international buyers on the project at the American Film Market next week.

Lee's next film "Oldboy" due in the United States on November 27 is a remake of the 2003 South Korean film based on the Japanese manga of the same name. It stars the likes of Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen and Samuel L. Jackson.
