'The Walking Dead' Is Renewed for Fifth Season, 'Drop Dead Diva' Gets Sixth Season Order

October 30, 2013, 2:05 am GMT

Scott M. Gimple will stay put as showrunner when the zombie-themed series returns for a new installment on AMC next year.

"The Walking Dead" and "Drop Dead Diva" have got another year to live. AMC has announced a fifth season renewal for its hit zombie drama series while Lifetime has reportedly ordered a sixth season for the legal drama.

"We are very happy to make what has to be one of the most anti-climactic renewal announcements ever: 'The Walking Dead' is renewed for a fifth season," Charlie Collier, AMC president, says in a press release. "This is a show that has erased traditional distinctions between cable and broadcast."

He continues, "Its expanding base of passionate fans has grown every season, most recently - and most notably - with the season four premiere earlier this month, which broke viewership records for the series and became the biggest non-sports telecast in cable history. On behalf of the incredible team on both sides of the camera, thank you to the fans and here's to more Dead."

Showrunner Scott Gimple will return to the same post for the upcoming installment set to air in 2014 with executive producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse. The number of episodes ordered for the fifth season is yet to be announced while its companion talk show, "Talking Dead", is expected to return as well.

At the same time, Telltale Games revealed details of the second season of "The Walking Dead" adventure game. The second season still follows the journey of Clementine, a young girl who loses her parents at the start of a zombie apocalypse. It consists of five episodes which can be purchased for $5 for each episode or for $22.49 for a full season. It's available for PC and Mac, and versions for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Apple iOS are in the works.

"Drop Dead Diva", on the other hand, will return for 13 new episodes to air next year. The show was brought back for a fifth season by Lifetime after it was initially canceled in January reportedly due to big production cost.
