The Emmy winner cites irreconcilable differences as the cause of her split with the actor earlier this year.

AceShowbiz - After 20 years of marriage that brought forth twin sons, 17-year-old Kristopher and John, actress Jane Seymour files for legal separation from actor/director husband James Keach, citing irreconcilable differences as the cause of their split. It was the legal step needed to make their separation official, finally coming six months after the couple first announced they were parting ways earlier this year.

In documents filed last week with the Los Angeles County Superior Court, the "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" star sought joint legal and physical custody of her sons. She also requested the court not to make her pay any spousal support in the same breadth that she no longer asked for spousal support to be given her.

"They will continue their relationship as devoted parents to their children, as business associates and partners, and in their joint dedication to preserving and furthering the charitable endeavors that they've worked on throughout their marriage," read a joint statement from the couple issued back in April. True enough, the pair was seen together on the red carpet of the 3rd annual Open Hearts Foundation gala even after they had already announced their separation.

The couple had multiple partners going into their marriage that took place back in May 1993, with the 62-year-old Seymour being his third wife and the 65-year-old Keach being her fourth husband. Despite the separation, both remain close. The "Somewhere in Time" leading lady once said, "We open our hearts to one another. We respect one another."
