AceShowbiz - "12 Years a Slave" leads the pack of nominees for the 23rd Gotham Independent Film Awards. The based-on-true-story film earns 3 nods, eying the Best Feature honor along with "Ain't Them Bodies Saints", "Before Midnight", "Inside Llewyn Davis" and "Upstream Color".
Lead actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, who plays Solomon Northup whose real-life story got turned into a movie, is nominated for Best Actor alongside Oscar Isaac ("Inside Llewyn Davis"), Matthew McConaughey ("Dallas Buyers Club"), Robert Redford ("All Is Lost") and Isaiah Washington ("Blue Caprice").
His co-star Lupita Nyong'o gets her own chance to walk home with a trophy as she lands in Breakthrough Actor category. Her competitors include Dane DeHaan ("Kill Your Darlings"), Kathryn Hahn ("Afternoon Delight"), Michael B. Jordan ("Fruitvale Station") and Robin Weigert ("Concussion").
Best Actress category sees a stiff competition between renowned stars such as Cate Blanchett ("Blue Jasmine"), Scarlett Johansson ("Don Jon") and Shailene Woodley ("The Spectacular Now"). Also joining the race are Brie Larson ("Short Term 12") and Amy Seimetz in ("Upstream Color").
The winners of the 2013 Gotham Awards will be announced in a gala held December 2, 2013 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Forest Whitaker will be presented with actor's tribute, and Richard Linklater will receive the director's tribute.
