One Direction Tapped to Perform at American Music Awards

The British/Irish boyband, whose second album is nominated for Best Pop/Rock Album, will likely perform some new material from their upcoming record, 'Midnight Memories'.

AceShowbiz - One Direction has been added to the line-up of performers at 2013 American Music Awards. The British boyband's upcoming appearance will mark the first time the five boys take the stage at the annual awards show, which will be broadcast on ABC from Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre on November 24 at 8 P.M..

The group has shared their excitement on Twitter, writing, "USA! 1D will be performing on @TheAMAs on Nov. 24! You can watch the show live on @ABC at 8pm ET/PT!" There's still no word on what song they will play, but some fans speculate that they will perform some new material from their upcoming "Midnight Memories" album.

In addition to performing, One Direction will compete in Favorite Album - Pop/Rock as their second album "Take Me Home" is nominated alongside Taylor Swift's "Red" and Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience". Harry Styles and his bandmates are also in the running for Favorite Band, Duo or Group - Pop/Rock.

One Direction is set to be joined by Florida Georgia Line, who has just been added to the line-up too. The country duo, who will make their debut appearance at the event, is also nominated in four categories that include New Artist of the Year.

"Florida Georgia Line and One Direction have made an incredible impact over the past three years," said Larry Klein, longtime producer of the American Music Awards. "We are thrilled to have them make their AMA debut performances this year."

Fans are encouraged to vote for their favorite nominees on AMAvote.com. For the first time in AMAs History, fans will also be able to vote for their favorite artists via Twitter.
