Jessica Lange to Retire From Acting After Another Season of 'American Horror Story'

October 23, 2013 (8:47 am) GMT
'Another stage production, maybe one or two more movies, one more season of 'American Horror Story' ... and then that is it for me,' so the Emmy-winning actress says.

has mapped out her retirement from acting. The 64-year-old star, who says that her role in HBO's movie "" "brought back the thrill of acting," opens up about her version of a five-year plan in an interview to Los Angeles Times.

"I am coming to the end of acting," she reveals. "I have a list: another stage production, maybe one or two more movies, one more season of '' ... and then that is it for me. Because I think that's enough. I want to go out with a bang ... or should I say, a scare?"

Lange admits that starring on Ryan Murphy's "American Horror Story", which helped her earn Emmy, a Golden Globe and a SAG award in 2012, "reenergized" her and her career. She explains, "There's no shame in recognizing that. It's exposed me to a whole new generation, which is a little strange. I'm not used to young people thinking I'm cool."

"AHS" co-creator Brad Falchuk dishes on what kind of actor Lange is. "There are certain people who just pull focus no matter who they're on-screen with," he gushes, "She is one of those people. She has an incredible intensity and incredible fragility. She, on the one hand, scares the hell out of you, and on the other hand, has you falling in love with her. It's hard not to be compelled by her."

, who has co-starred Lange in all three seasons of "AHS", also has nothing but good words for Lange. She recalls the time she filmed a scene from "Asylum", "I remember just staring at her and thinking, 'I was just talking to her on the way to the set and now she's muttering to herself. And it was so simple, not overwrought. But it was so damn powerful. Nobody plays more things at once than that lady. There is more going on in one line with Jessica than another actor can get across in an entire season.' "

Lange currently plays Fiona, the long-absent Supreme of the witch community, on "AHS: Coven". Paulson stars as Fiona's daughter Cordelia. The show airs Wednesdays at 10 P.M. on FX.
