Burton could reunite with Keaton as both are looking to reprise their respective roles as the director and the lead actor in the upcoming sequel to his classic ghost story.

AceShowbiz - Tim Burton is in negotiations to return to his post as a director for the sequel to his 1988 ghost story "Beetlejuice", multiple sources confirm to The Wrap. Michael Keaton is also expected to reprise his role as the title ghost in the "Beetlejuice 2".

Burton has always said that he's willing to helm the upcoming sequel, but only if the script was right. "Those were fun characters, but I'd have to see what the script was like and if it was worth doing," the "Frankenweenie" director once told Vulture.

He jokingly added, "I can't just make it because it's one of the worst ten movies of the year. The first two films I did, Pee-wee's Big Adventure and Beetlejuice, made the ten-worst-movies-of-the-year lists. Then, years later, people said they were my best movies. What? So if those were my best, I'm in real trouble."

He also wanted Keaton to return to the franchise. "I think he would be willing to do it. [Keaton] would have to be [in] it," he said to MTV News. "He was great as that character. I think it's a way to unleash your inner whatever. I bet you he would get right back into it."

The Geffen Company, which produced the first film, will produce the sequel with Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions. Grahame-Smith, who wrote Burton-produced "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter", also penned the "Beetlejuice 2" script.
