'Chicago Fire' spin-off 'Chicago PD' will take over 'Ironside' slot beginning January 8, while cult comedy 'Community' will return with its fifth season starting January 2.

AceShowbiz - NBC has pulled the plug on two of its new shows. Just a few weeks into their inaugural seasons, "Ironside" and "Welcome to the Family" get the axe, giving room for fan favorite "Community" and a more promising freshman "Chicago PD".

The Blair Underwood-starring drama series, which is a remake of the 1960s show of the same title, will air its last episode October 23. "Dateline" and holiday specials will fill in the Wednesday, 10 P.M. slot until "Chicago Fire" spin-off "Chicago PD" premieres on January 8.

On Thursdays at 8:30 P.M., NBC will replace "Welcome to the Family" with back-to-back episodes of "Parks and Recreation", a special edition of "The Voice", Halloween specials, "The Sound of Music Live!" and "The Sing-Off".

"Community" returns with its fifth season on January 9 with a one-hour premiere starting at 8 P.M. before airing regularly on its old slot at 8 P.M. Thus, current occupant "Parks and Rec" will move to the 8:30 P.M. slot.

Words are, another low-rated new comedy "Sean Saves the World" is still safe for now. Deadline reports that the show, which posted a 1.1 rating in adults 18-49 with the most recent episode same as the newly-canceled "Ironside", has received an order for 4 additional scripts. "The Michael J. Fox Show", meanwhile, has reportedly received a full-season order.
