Elle magazine defends McCarthy styling on the cover of its November Women in Hollywood issue following criticism that she is covered up in the photo.

AceShowbiz - Elle magazine has responded to criticism over Melissa McCarthy's photo for the magazine's cover of November Women in Hollywood issue. After some critics took aim at the magazine for covering her up, a spokesperson defended the styling in a statement.

"On all of our shoots, our stylists work with the stars to choose pieces they feel good in, and this is no different: Melissa loved this look, and is gorgeous on our cover," the spokesperson said. "We are thrilled to honor her as one of our Women in Hollywood this year." A source tells E! News similar info, saying that the actress "loves the cover."

Previously, culture critic June Thomas wrote in a Slate essay, "[McCarthy] was photographed in a Marina Rinaldi coat so huge that she could hide her 'Mike & Molly' co-star Billy Gardell underneath. McCarthy's hair covers a quarter of her gorgeous face, and with her hands stuffed deep into her coat pockets, the only visible flesh is a tiny triangle between the coat's lapels and the briefest glimpse of calf."

Other honorees are less concealed in their photo shoot compared to McCarthy's. Reese Witherspoon wears a black Versace dress, while Shailene Woodley sports a black swimsuit. Penelope Cruz, who was pregnant at that time, does not show her body on the photo, showing off her natural-looking face instead.
