Mischa Barton Opens Up About 'Full-On Breakdown'
Celebrity

The former teen star talks about her old wild partying ways, drugs and being bullied for her weight.

AceShowbiz - Who knew that the issues Mischa Barton's character Marissa Cooper was struggling with on the FOX TV series "The O.C." turned out to be the same challenges that the actress faced after she skyrocketed to fame from starring on the hit TV teen drama. This was the revelation that 27-year-old Barton made in an interview with People magazine, where she talks about the "full-on breakdown" that landed her in the psych ward.

"It was terrifying. Straight out of 'Girl, Interrupted.' Story of my life," described Barton. She opened up about how she and her celebrity buddies Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie would fly around the world to party hard after earning millions in endorsements under the "work hard, play hard" mindset. She was getting immense pressure from work, where she said "everybody was depending on me" that even when she was already asking to get out of some commitments she was told she couldn't.

After being arrested for DUI and marijuana possession in 2007, her parents staged an intervention in 2009, during which she blacked out after taking the prescribed Xanax to help her handle the anxiety. Her hospital confinement brought her under intense scrutiny from the media, which she also resented for having been too critical of her weight by saying either "she's to skinny" or "she's too big."

Stating she was "never suicidal" and "just overworked and depressed," Barton said she had learned from her experiences and is ready for her big Hollywood comeback, with a TV pilot and new movie projects already lined up.
