Douglas, who said that he was diagnosed with throat cancer in August 2010, reveals that he actually suffered from tongue cancer.

AceShowbiz - Michael Douglas actually suffered from tongue cancer rather than throat cancer as reported a few years ago. The "Behind the Candelabra" actor revealed the news during an interview with Samuel L. Jackson on ITV's "This Morning", as part of Male Cancer Awareness Week.

"This was right before I had to go on a big tour for [Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps], so we kind of said there's no way we can cancel the tour and say we don't feel well. ... You've got to tell them," Douglas said. "I said, 'You've just got to come out and just tell them I've got cancer and that's that.' "

The Emmy-winning actor continued, "But the surgeon said, 'Let's just say it's throat cancer.' I said 'OK, you don't want to say it's tongue cancer?' I said 'Why's that?' and he said, 'Well, if you really want to know why, if we do have to have surgery it's not going to be pretty. You'll lose part of you jaw and your tongue and all of that stuff.' So I said, 'OK sure.' "

Back in August 2010, Douglas revealed that he had stage 4 throat cancer. He underwent radiation as well as chemotherapy treatments and successfully battled the disease in 2011. In a recent doctor appointment, Douglas was told that the possibility of the disease coming back is very small.

"[The check-ups] start out every three months and then after that you get to six months, and just before I got here I had my last check-up because I passed two years, and I'm clean. And with my type of cancer, if you're clean after two years, there's a 95 per cent chance it's not coming back," he said.
