The Jennifer Lopez-executive-produced family drama series gets a new season order while on hiatus following the summer finale in August.

AceShowbiz - For being a new high-rated show on ABC Family, "The Fosters" has received a new season order. The teen family drama series, which became a sleeper hit last summer, is renewed for a second season by the young-skewing network.

" 'The Fosters' has demonstrated its ability to build an audience, and the creative team's compelling storytelling assures us that there will be more growth in upcoming seasons," says ABC Family CCO Kate Juergens. "The show's dynamic cast and groundbreaking storylines resonate with our core viewers and leave them wanting more."

Debuted in June, the Jennifer Lopez-executive-produced show ranked as the No.1 new cable TV series of the summer in viewers 12-34 and females 12-34. It is currently ABC Family's No. 2 series in target demos, behind only "Pretty Little Liars".

The network picked up "The Fosters" for a full season last July. The show will return with 10 new episodes of the inaugural season in January 2014.
