Cory's father Joe hopes that the tribute episode on 'Glee' will bring positive changes to people, saying, 'I don't want to see any parent lose a child over heroin.'

AceShowbiz - Cory Monteith's estranged father Joe Monteith opens up about his son's departure, saying that Cory's death is "tearing me apart." Joe was absent from most part of Cory's life following his separation from Cory's mother Ann McGregor in 1989.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Joe says that the last time he met Cory was two years ago. At that time, the two talked about many things including Cory's relationship with "Glee" co-star Lea Michele, Cory's past battle with drug addiction and the parents' split. During their first time meeting in 11 years, he also saw Cory smoking a cigarette.
Cory once had bad drug reaction when he was 19, Joe says. "He got a shot to his heart to bring him back, and he was told at that time to use no drugs of any kind because you had your one shot," he recalls. At that time, Cory also promised him to stay clean. "He said 'I won't go there ever again. I'm enjoying myself,' " Joe tells the publication.
Cory passed away at the age of 31 on July 13 in Vancouver due to lethal mixture of drug and alcohol. Joe, who was not able to see his son before he was cremated, said tearfully, "It's just ripping my insides out and tearing me apart."
Joe also says that he is nervous to watch tribute episode "The Quarterback" on "Glee" and hopes that the episode may lead people to go back on the right track. "I lost my son. He should have known not to touch that drug again. I don't want to see any parent lose a child over heroin," he says.
