AceShowbiz - "American Horror Story: Coven" premiere bewitched television audience on Wednesday, October 9. The season opener for the third installment of the Ryan Murphy-created series broke record for the franchise, with 5.5 million total viewers, according to Nielsen.
It was up 44|percent| compared to the premiere of "American Horror Story: Asylum," which drew 3.8 million last year. In the adults 18-49 demo, the "Coven" premiere delivered a 3.0 rating, up 39|percent| from last year and topping all broadcast competition in primetime that night, except ABC's "Modern Family".
The number establishes the "Coven" premiere as the most-watched episode in the franchise history. It will likely rank as the most-watched program in FX history when live+7 data becomes available.
When two later encore runs are combined, "Coven" delivered 7.78 million total viewers and 5.36 million adults 18-49 for the night.
