Jack O'Connell, Miles Teller, Margot Robbie, and Michael B. Jordan are also lined up in the shortlist of the top contenders.

AceShowbiz - The top contenders who could play "Fantastic Four" in the upcoming reboot have been revealed. Variety reports that Kit Harington, Saoirse Ronan and Kate Mara are among those who have tested for the lead roles in the superheroes do-over.

"Game of Thrones" star Harington, along with Jack O'Connell and Miles Teller, is circling the role of Reed Richards a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic. Meanwhile, "Hanna" actress Ronan and "Deadfall" star Mara are testing for Susan Storm a.k.a. Invisible Woman along with Margot Robbie.

"Parenthood" actor Michael B. Jordan is linked to play Johnny Storm a.k.a. the Human Torch, but there's no word on who the candidate(s) for Ben Grimm a.k.a. The Thing is.

Josh Trank, who directed Jordan in "Chronicle", will helm the reboot, while "X-Men: Days of Future Past" scribe Simon Kinberg is hired to get the script done.

The first "Fantastic Four" film was released in 2005, after an attempt to bring the superheroes to the big screen in the 1990s failed. Ioan Gruffudd starred as Reed, Jessica Alba and Chris Evans as the Storm sister and brother respectively, and Michael Chiklis as Grimm.

A sequel, "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer", followed in 2007. The actors from the first movie were all back reprising the respective roles. Both movies were directed by Tim Story and grossed more than $620 million worldwide combined.
