'The Vampire Diaries' 5.02 Preview: Stefan Is in Pain and Reaching Out to Elena

Elena is aware of Stefan's situation as the elder Salvatore turns to Sheriff Forbes for help finding his missing brother.

Elena gets anxious when she learns that Stefan has been suffering somewhere unknown in an upcoming episode of "". The younger Salvatore is apparently reaching out to his ex-girlfriend to let her know his condition and she urges Damon to find him. Damon, having kept Elena in the dark that Stefan is missing, finally turns to Sheriff Forbes for help finding his brother.

Meanwhile, Elena and Caroline are busy conducting their own investigation, trying to find out who is covering up a campus murder. A fellow Whitmore student named Jesse (guest star Kendrick Sampson) gives Elena some intriguing information about Professor Wes Maxfield (guest star Rick Cosnett).

As Jeremy struggles to return to his old life, he continues to be the only person who can see and talk to Bonnie, but he can't convince her that it's time to let the others know that she sacrificed her own life for his.

After learning that Silas is searching for Katherine, Damon asks Matt and Jeremy to keep her out of sight, but the situation quickly spirals out of control. Finally, Nadia (guest star Olga Fonda) uses violence to make a point about her own agenda.

In a recent interview with TV Guide, revealed how being locked underwater would change Stefan. "Stefan is really screwed up in the head when he gets out of this quarry," he said. "He has had all these torturous experiences and so now doesn't react the same way as he used to and he's not as malleable. He's definitely a different man."

"The Vampire Diaries" will return with the new episode titled "True Lies" on Thursday, October 10 at 8/7c on The CW.
