Oprah Winfrey Opens Up About Near Nervous Breakdown in 2012

The media mogul reveals keeping her TV network afloat and filming 'The Butler' caused her symptoms.

AceShowbiz - She may be one of the world's most powerful women but in an interview with Access Hollywood's Shaun Robinson recently, talk show host Oprah Winfrey showed that like everyone else, she's still very much human. The 59-year-old media personality revealed that she almost had a nervous breakdown last year, in the midst of struggling to save her failing OWN TV network while filming "Lee Daniels' The Butler", a role which she could not turn down despite the offer's unbelievably bad timing.

"It was just sort of speeding and a kind of numbness and going from one thing to the next thing to the next thing," Winfrey described the pace she was going at, thinking "if I don't calm down I'm going be in serious trouble." She realized during an October 2012 interview that she was going through the same thing as "Kony 2012" director Jason Rusell, who had a public meltdown in March 2012, stripping naked and stopping traffic in San Diego, California.

"I had reached a point where I just couldn't take in any more stimulation," said the Forbes 2013 most powerful celebrity. But it was not until another interview, this time with Black Eyed Peas member Fergie (Stacy Ferguson), whose father was suffering from cancer at that time, that Winfrey decided to take better care of herself and that she needed to slow down.

Being the resilient woman that she is and with all her hard work and dedication, Winfrey has managed to turn things around for OWN, from an estimated $330 million in losses at the onset, to finally turning some profit by the end of this year. Her new film is also a certified blockbuster.
