The series creator and showrunner says 'there's no chance' to a 'Mad Men' spin-off, adding that 'when it's done, it's done.'

AceShowbiz - Despite using "Breaking Bad" formula of splitting the final season into two parts, "Mad Men" won't follow in the footsteps of the crime drama series with a spin-off. Despite speculations on a potential spin-off to the period drama, series creator Matthew Weiner says it won't happen.

"There's no chance," Weiner tells The Hollywood Reporter at an Emmy nominees party when asked about a possible "Mad Men" spin-off. Referring to other AMC shows "Breaking Bad" and "The Walking Dead" which both get spin-off treatment, he adds, "No judgment against anybody else -- but this is it. This is the story. When it's done, it's done."

Weiner also reveals that it's AMC's decision to split the final installment of "Mad Men" into two parts. "It's a strategy from the network and I was told about it," he says. "I found a way to work with it. That's all I can say. I think it's an opportunity."

Speaking of his strategy to keep audience hooked on his show, Weiner shares, "Every season is a new story, and I don't want to get bored but I also don't want to let the audience down. For me, I start over. And there's this kind of thing that happens with the audience every year where it's like they're very happy to see us back in the premiere, and when the new story starts around episode two they start getting antsy and then they get with it by episode three when they see it's a new story."

The first part of "Mad Men" final season is called "The Beginning" and is set to air in spring 2014, while the second half is dubbed "The End of an Era" set for a spring 2015 premiere. Both parts will consist of seven episodes each.
