Kelsey Grammer Joins 'The Expendables 3' Cast
Movie

The 'Frasier' star becomes the final actor attached to the role originally offered to action movie vet Nicolas Cage.

AceShowbiz - For those who know Kelsey Grammer for playing mild-mannered psychiatrist Dr. Frasier Crane on NBC's sitcoms "Cheers" and "Frasier", they might initially be surprised to learn that the 58-year-old comedian has just joined the ensemble cast of action stars of "The Expendables 3". Grammer is set to play the role of ex-convict Bonaparte who helps the group on their mission.

The role was first offered to Nicolas Cage, an actor who, as versatile as he was for playing characters in a variety of film genres, from dramas and romantic comedies to science fiction, was also well-known for playing an action hero in several movies. But finally, that spot in the third installment of the action-adventure flick has gone to Grammer, who'll turn from funnyman to muscle man in the film.

Perhaps more unlikely than his casting in "The Expendables 3" is his inclusion in "Transformers: Age of Extinction" as no less than its villain Harold Attinger. His casting in the fourth installment of the live-action "Transformers" movie series was said to have resulted from the film's director Michael Bay being a fan of Starz's series "Boss" where Grammer played a power-broking Chicago mayor.

By signing up for the "Expendables 3" role, Grammer adds more star power to an already star-studded ensemble consisting of other Hollywood A-listers as Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Wesley Snipes, Dolph Lundgren and Antonio Banderas. The movie is due August 15, 2014 in the States.
