The singer/producer praises Marvin Gaye's works but insists that there are no similarities between 'Blurred Lines' and the late singer's 1977 song, 'Got to Give It Up'.

AceShowbiz - Pharrell Williams has spoken out about the legal battle with Marvin Gaye's estate over Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines". The singer/producer has denied that the hit song, which he co-created with Thicke and T.I., bears similarities to Gaye's 1977 song called "Got to Give It Up".
In an interview with Associated Press, Williams expressed his admiration for Gaye, saying, "I'm a huge fan of Marvin Gaye. He is a genius. He is the patriarch." However, Williams refused to compare "Blurred Lines" to the late singer's record.
"If you read music, all you have to do is read the sheet music. It's completely different," he continued. "[Gaye] is the king of all kings, so let's be clear about that. And we take our hats off to him. But anybody that plays music and reads music, just simply go to the piano and play the two. One's minor and one's major. And not even in the same key."
Last month, Williams, Thicke and T.I. preemptively sued Gaye's family. They filed a lawsuit at a court in California, asking a judge to declare that their "Blurred Lines" doesn't use the infringing elements of Gaye's "Got to Give It Up".
