Official: Julianne Moore to Play President Alma Coin in 'Mockingjay' Part 1 and 2

The Oscar-nominated actress who plays Sarah Palin in 'Game Change' has landed the role as the leader of the rebellion against the Capitol in the last two 'Hunger Games' movies.

AceShowbiz - After months of rumor, Lionsgate finally announces that Julianne Moore is cast to portray President Alma Coin. She will play the leader of the rebellion against the Capitol in both "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1" and "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2".

Moore, 52, will join new members in the franchise that include Natalie Dormer, Stef Dawson and Evan Ross. They will star opposite returning cast like Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.

Francis Lawrence, who directs the second installment "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire", will back to helm the next two movies. "Catching Fire" is due November 22 this year, followed by the first "Mockingjay" on November 21, 2014 and the last one on November 20, 2015.

"Mockingjay" will follow Katniss (Lawrence) as she leads the districts of Panem in a rebellion against the tyrannical and corrupt Capitol. As the war starts, she comes into conflict with Coin due to the president's ruthlessness and greed for power. Now Katniss must decipher for herself who she can trust and what needs to be done, with everything she cares for in the balance.

Julianne Moore is a four-time Oscar nominee. Last year, she starred in HBO's political drama film "Game Change" as former U.S. Vice President candidate Sarah Palin, a role that gave her an Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG award. She will next be seen in "Don Jon, "Seventh Son" and "Carrie".
