Producer Jerry Bruckheimer explains that the 'Pirates of Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales' filmakers 'want a script that everyone's signed off on and a budget that everyone's signed off on.'

AceShowbiz - "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" won't be coming in 2015 as originally scheduled. Disney has just announced that the fifth installment of the Captain Jack Sparrow adventure is now eyed for summer 2016. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer cites script issues as the reason behind the delay.
"We have an outline everyone loves but the script is not done," Bruckheimer told The Hollywood Reporter. Coming up with a great script was "always hard," he said, but he's confident with the Johnny Depp-starring pic, "With any movie, you're never confident. But it's a billion-dollar franchise."
When asked if the delay had something to do with the flop of mega-budgeted "The Lone Ranger", also starring Depp, that caused multimillion-dollar write-down for Disney, Bruckerheimer admittedly said, "It's all a factor. We want a script that everyone's signed off on and a budget that everyone's signed off on," adding, "everybody's more cautious" after last summer.
The producer additionally stressed that it was important to push the project because "we're supposed to start in March and you start spending a lot of money now."
The initial script written by "Men in Black 3" scribe Jeff Nathanson reportedly "was too expensive but it was also really complicated and hard to follow," and now he's said rewriting it based on the well-received outline. But, "How do you budget an outline?" Bruckerheimer rhetorically asked.
"Pirates of Caribbean" was originally slated by Disney for July 10, 2015, a week before Warner Bros.' "Man of Steel 2" which will chart the encounter of Batman and Superman opens in theaters. Despite the movie's delay, the Mouse House will still have some big other releases, as "Star Wars Episode 7", "Avengers: Age of Ultron", Pixar's "Inside Out (2015)", and "Ant-Man" are all set for the summer.
