AceShowbiz - The first footage from "Labor Day" has made its way out online ahead of the film's premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, September 7. The film stars Kate Winslet as a single mother named Adele who encounters a wounded man Frank Chambers, played by Josh Brolin, during a shopping trip with her son Henry (Gattlin Griffith) and agrees to take him home.
The clip features a scene which takes place shortly after the trio returns home and learns that the stranger is an escaped convict. Frank appears to be planning his next move with some information about the neighborhood from Henry and Adele. The events of this long Labor Day weekend will shape them for the rest of their lives.
Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Jason Reitman serves behind the lens for the drama film set for limited release in the U.S. on December 25. He also writes the script based on Joyce Maynard's novel of the same title. Tobey Maguire stars as young Henry, Clark Gregg plays Henry's father Gerald, and James van der Beek takes the role of Officer Treadwell.
"I'm attracted to make characters who make inexplicable decisions. That excites me," Reitman said of what attracted him to the story. "In Labor Day, we are introduced to two people who have no reason to trust each other - and not even in the traditional sense."
