Executive Producer Joss Whedon also warns viewers not to have big expectation that any of Marvel's costumed heroes will appear on the ABC show.

AceShowbiz - Despite originating from the same universe, Marvel comics, X-Men will never be featured on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.". Maurissa Tancharoen, an executive producer on the ABC series, says that rights issues prevent Wolverine and co. from appearing on the TV show. "We can never [even] use the word 'mutant'," she tells Wall Street Journal.

Moreover, co-executive producer Joss Whedon who directed "The Avengers" warns fans not to expect appearance from any of Marvel's costumed superheroes. "There is a danger of creating an expectation that [they] are going to see the sequel to The Avengers," he says. "They're going to see something very cool... but we also want them to come meet our characters and not just wait to see Iron Man swoop into the screen."

While Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and Chris Evans' Captain America may never grace the small screen through the upcoming drama series, fans can expect an appearance from Cobie Smulders, who will reprise her "Avengers" role as Agent Maria Hill in the pilot. The show also brings back Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, who was presumed dead in the 2012 movie.

On "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.", Coulson assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary.

Brett Dalton, Ming-Na Wen, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker and Chloe Bennet play the team members. ABC will launch the much-anticipated action series on Tuesday, September 24 at 8 P.M.
