AceShowbiz - Benedict Cumberbatch will be honored at BAFTA L.A.'s Britannia Awards ceremony November 9 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The British actor, who is now in Toronto to promote his new movie "The Fifth Estate", has been named British Artist of the Year, as the BAFTA LA chairman Gary Dartnall announced on September 5.

"Benedict Cumberbatch has had a remarkable year, and as one of the United Kingdom's leading talents he truly exemplifies the continued respect that British talents have garnered around the globe," Dartnall explained why Cumberbatch, of all names, was chosen as this year's winner for the award.

Dartnall added, "Masterfully performing in TV, film and theater and never failing to astound us with his talent and versatility, BAFTA Los Angeles is proud to honor Benedict as our British Artist of the Year."

Cumberbatch, who joins past honorees including Daniel Craig, Kate Winslet and Michael Sheen, will accept his honor alongside George Clooney, who will receive the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for excellence in film.

Additionally, Kathryn Bigelow will be awarded with the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for excellence in directing, and Ben Kingsley is the recipient of the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for worldwide contribution to entertainment.
