The 'Dawson's Creek' actress will team up with Alan Cumming, who is set to reprise his role as the Emcee for the third time.

AceShowbiz - Michelle Williams is set for her Broadway debut as Sally Bowles in a revival of the 1998 production of "Cabaret", the Roundabout Theatre Company announced Wednesday, September 4. The three-time Oscar-nominated actress will star alongside Alan Cumming, who is tapped to reprise his role as the Emcee, the role which helped him win a Tony.
"I'm delighted to be stepping back into the Kit Kat Klub one more time, and to be having the opportunity to re-explore and re-discover this extraordinary musical alongside two equally extraordinary performers," said director Sam Mendes, who helmed the 1998 musical that won four Tonys with Rob Marshall, in a statement.
"Michelle Williams is an actress of rare gifts and she will make an astonishing Sally Bowles," said Marshall, who will return to co-direct and choreograph the show. "And I am especially excited that Alan Cumming is reprising his extraordinary performance as the Emcee for a whole new audience to experience."
"I was in a totally different place in my life on both of those occasions," Cumming said of his two stints portraying the Emcee in the 1998 show and the 1993 reboot, which Mendes directed for the Donmar Warehouse in London's West End.
"And I am certainly a different man today. But one thing hasn't changed: There are still people in this world who want to oppress and destroy us for being different, and Cabaret is both a celebration of diversity and a reminder of the dangers of complacency."
Before Williams got cast, Emma Stone was initially wanted to take on the role. However, reps for the "Easy A" actress told Entertainment Weekly that she passed due to prior movie commitments.
The new production is set for a 24-week limited engagement at the Kit Kat Klub at Studio 54 on Broadway at West 54th St. Previews start March 24, 2014, and the production's official opening is April 24, 2014.
