Benedict Cumberbatch's Rep Slams 'Star Wars' Rumor

The 'Star Trek Into Darkness' actor has been said to likely star as the 'Star Wars Episode 7' villain.

AceShowbiz - After reps for Ryan Gosling dismissed report on the actor's potential involvement in "Star Wars Episode 7", it is time for Benedict Cumberbatch's to take the same action. The British star, who is now one of most-in-demand actors following his strong performance in "Star Trek Into Darkness", has been predicted to reteam with J.J. Abrams.

"There is no truth to the rumor Benedict has been cast in Star Wars," a spokesperson for the 37-year-old actor said to NY Daily News. "I think the rumors are circling because JJ and Benedict have just recently had a wonderful time working together on Star Trek."

The news was first reported by Film Chronicles. Devin Faraci of Badass Digest even added that the Golden Globe nominee would be "a bad guy, almost certainly a Sith. And it's a major role, one that will continue throughout the whole new trilogy."

It seemed convincing since Cumberbatch suddenly dropped out of "Crimson Peak", which apparently will kick off its the production about the same time as "Star Wars", for unspecified reason. It even made more sense as the actor once said he would love to portray Han Solo.

Whether Cumberbatch will indeed follow in Abrams' footsteps or not remains to be seen later once Lucasfilm makes the official casting announcement. The new "Star Wars", scheduled to start filming in London early next year, is expected to open in theaters in 2015.
