The 'Harry Potter' star's appearance on the red carpet caused frenzy among his devotees, prompting the guards to save him from the crowd.

AceShowbiz - Daniel Radcliffe caused fans stampede when stepping out at the Venice Film Festival over the weekend. The "Harry Potter" actor was surrounded by a large number of screaming fans who reportedly rattled the barricades to get closer to their idol.

But security was quick to come to his rescue and guide him to safety. "Thankfully, it's not always like this," he said of the overexcited crowd. "I've been dealing with it in various ways since I was 11. I don't take it seriously, actually I think it's funny."

Radcliffe looked dapper on the red carpet wearing a cobalt blue blazer and immaculately tailored black trousers. He walked the red carpet to promote his movie "Kill Your Darlings", where he plays a young Allen Ginsberg, and was all smiles posing with director John Krokidas.

The British actor admitted he was initially worried about his fans' reaction because of the film's adult theme which included drugs and homosexuality. "I'm incredibly grateful for the swirl of support behind me," he said. "My fans seem to be excited by the unconventional path I am taking."

Of what drew him to portray the beat poet Ginsberg, he said, "I love poetry and it was fantastic to get the part and have the opportunity to dive into Ginsberg's life. The diaries he made when he was young gave me an amazing insight into his character."
