The John Curran-directed movie, which also stars Adam Driver, was screened in competition at the prestigious film festival in Italy.

The Weinstein Co. might pick up Mia Wasikowska's "Tracks". Deadline learns that the studio, headed by Harvey Weinstein, enters talks to nab the U.S. rights to the movie, directed by John Curran. The deal is being made after the pic threw its world premiere on Thursday, August 29 at the Venice Film Festival, where it is up to compete.

"Tracks" centers on a young woman who sets out on a solo 2,700-kilometre journey by foot across the Australian Outback following the collapse of her marriage and her mother's death. It also features Adam Driver as a National Geographic photographer who strikes up relationship with her while on assignment.

During the promotional event at the Palazzo del Cinema in Italy, Wasikowska hit the red carpet alongside director John Curran and writer Robyn Davidson whom her character in the flick is based on. The 23-year-old actress looked stunning in a black halter gown with a lace bodice and mermaid hem.

Before heading to the Toronto fest, the Marion Nelson-written film will be screened at Telluride, where it hosts the U.S. premiere of the adaptation of the best-selling memoir.
