The 'Star Trek Into Darkness' helmer is working with Jonathan Nolan and Jerry Weintraub to develop a TV adaptation of the 1973 sci-fi movie.

AceShowbiz - J.J. Abrams is bringing "Westworld" to HBO. The A-list filmmaker has teamed up with Jonathan Nolan ("Person of Interest") and producer Jerry Weintraub ("Behind the Candelabra") to adapt the 1973 cult classic into a TV show for the pay-cable channel, which has ordered the pilot.
The upcoming TV adaptation is "set in the amazing world dreamt up by Michael Crichton." It is described as "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin." Nolan is set to direct the pilot in addition to teaming up with Lisa Joy to write and executive produce the series.
Written and directed by novelist Michael Crichton, "Westworld" movie starred Yul Brynner as as an android in a futuristic Western-themed amusement park. He tormented guests of the park, played by Richard Benjamin and James Brolin.
The movie was first turned into a TV series starring James Wainwright and Connie Selleca back in 1980. The short-lived drama continued the story from the film and its 1976 sequel, "Futureworld".
