Shemane Nugent 'apologizes to the authorities and any passengers that were inconvenienced by her mistake' after she was arrested after a gun was found in her carry-on.

AceShowbiz - Shemane Nugent, the wife of outspoken rocker Ted Nugent, was stopped by security when her bag was x-rayed at a Transportation Security Administration checkpoint at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The 51-year-old was detained Thursday, August 29 after a gun was found in her carry-on.

Shemane's lawyer David Finn confirmed his client's arrest at the airport over possession of a firearm in a prohibited area. She was released Thursday afternoon after being processed at the airport's holding facility. It's unclear if she had a gun permit. Permitted guns are allowed to be in checked bags.

In a statement shortly after news broke out, his lawyer said she didn't realize she had a weapon in her bag when she left home at 6 in the Thursday morning to catch a flight after working late the night before. "This was an honest mistake by a law-abiding lady," the attorney insisted.

"And I am confident that the prosecution and grand jury will realize that it was simply an honest mistake," he added in the statement to Dallas Morning News. "Unfortunately, this happens to many people every single day at our airports."

The lawyer went on, "Shemane is embarrassed and apologizes to the authorities and any passengers that were inconvenienced by her mistake."

Ted is a board member for the National Rifle Association. He opposes gun control measures proposed by President Obama. He films his wife firing a variety of weaponry in home videos numerous times.
