Tate Taylor's 'Get on Up' will feature '42' star Chadwick Boseman as the Godfather of Soul.

AceShowbiz - Universal Pictures has dated and named its James Brown biopic, which is set to be headlined by "42" actor Chadwick Boseman. The studio will release "Get on Up" on October 17, 2014. Currently slated for the same release date is the 20th Century Fox's "Frankenstein", which stars Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy.

Universal additionally reveals the official synopsis. The movie, written by Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, will be based on the life story of the Godfather of Soul. Giving a fearless look inside the music, moves and moods of Brown, it follows the rise of the artist from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into a world famous and highly influential musician.

Boseman's inclusion was reported earlier this week. Director Tate Taylor might reunite with his "The Help" stars as Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer, along with "True Blood" actor Nelsan Ellis, enter talks to take supporting roles in the long-delayed project that has been developed by producer Brian Grazer.

Set to co-produce the music movie are Victoria Pearman, Erica Huggins and The Rolling Stones' frontman, Mick Jagger, who is involved in it under his Jagged Films banner. John Norris, Trish Hofmann and Peter Afterman will executive produce.
