The 'Fast and Furious' star reveals that he was originally wanted for a 'fresh IP that would come out in 2016 or 2017'.

AceShowbiz - Vin Diesel gives details about his meeting with Marvel Studios in a promotional interview for his new movie, "Riddick". Sitting down with The Hollywood Reporter, the buffed action star is asked about Groot, the "Guardians of the Galaxy" role which he will most likely nab. "What can I say about Groot? I can say something about Marvel," he replies.

"I take my hat off to them for being so creative and thinking outside of the box," Diesel begins, before revealing what project he and the studio's execs originally talked about at that time. "That was the focus of our conversation - a fresh IP [intellectual property] that would come out in 2016 or 2017, and potentially launch the third phase."

The plans, as it turns out, were scrapped after Diesel discovered during his visit at the San Diego Comic-Con in July that fans could not wait that long to see him in a Marvel flick. "With my schedule, it was almost impossible to imagine I could do anything immediate," says the actor, who will reprise his iconic role as Dominic Toretto in "Fast and Furious 7".

"I guess after they watched Iron Giant, or whatever, they came up with this idea of taking the strangest Marvel character - or the strangest Marvel character that's ever hit film - and thought what I could do with that with motion capture and with my voice," he tells the site. "Now it's just up to my reps to allow that to happen."

Though he does not mention name of the Phase Three film, many predict that it is Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man", which is currently set for November 6, 2015.

Once the deal is sealed, Diesel will join a very exciting cast ensemble which already has Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana among others. "Guardians of the Galaxy" will be released on August 1, 2014.
